A few weeks ago I thought it would be nice to make a concerted effort to be sincere and genuine when exchanging pleasantries with people in the service industry. I started at the grocery store. When my cashier said ‘have a nice day’ as she was handing me my receipt I made great eye contact and said ‘I hope you have a great day too’. I tiny little thing but she smiled and said thanks. My little experiment went on from there. Bank teller, home improvement center, gas station when buying lottery ticket etc. The reaction was always the same. Big smiles. It makes me think that most of the time we exchange pleantries and don’t mean it...really. The best part is how good it makes me feel to make someone smile. Try this little experiment. You’ll love it and it soon becomes a nice new habit.
